Durrette Residence

A timeless family home defined by simple bold geometry and strong horizontal lines with a nod to mid-century modernism. Deep overhangs and covered porches give depth to the facade while protecting the walls from yearround rain and provide sheltered outdoor living from the harsh summer sun. A neutral palette of materials consists of earth tone brick, metal panel, and natural wood cladding. The open plan is centered around the kitchen and living room where the family spends much of their time with each other and friends. The ground floor also includes the primary bedroom suite, guest bedroom, and office. The upper floor accommodates all the children’s bedrooms, a family room, built-in study area, and a dedicated television room. Space planning and massing was studied to create a desired level of sound separation between floors. The backyard is focused on a large rectangular pool with simple landscaping allowing for flexible kids play. Expansive walls of glass blur the boundaries between the interior space and exterior while providing an abundance of natural light.
