Memorial Village Residence

I was approached by my client for our guidance in making considerable updates to their new home. Built in the 80’s, the house was significantly outdated both in style and function. I know that the client expected new finishes throughout, but as any good architect would, I proposed some major revisions to the floor plan that the client was not expecting! Although unexpected, the value of these plan suggestions was readily apparent! The original kitchen was small and separated from the main entertainment areas. Any updating of the existing kitchen would not give it more functionality or open it to a larger entertainment area. Relocating the kitchen to the previous dining room and pantry increased the area and opened it to the main part of the house. The living room had a bar which occupied a significant portion of the room and limited the useability of the entire room. There was a considerable area outside the house that was already covered by the roof, and by enclosing a portion of it I was able to move the wet bar into the space between the living room and the new dining room location. This eliminated dead end rooms and created a great flow for entertaining. The primary suite was also updated. Within the next few weeks the exterior will be painted and all the existing window frames. No significant exterior revisions were made so no exterior photographs. The architectural changes made a significant impact on the livability of this house!
